Phil Mickelson was honored for being ranked in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking every week for the last 25 years. International Golf Federation president Peter Dawson gave Mickelson a back-handed compliment of sorts: "Unfortunately, Mr. Woods was around during your time, so you never quite got to No. 1."
Morelli's Ice Cream in Portrush has a portrait of defending Open champ Francesco Molinari — made out of ice cream sprinkles. Molinari might take his family there later this week. "The kids would be happy getting ice cream. They probably wouldn't even notice it on the wall."
Other interesting pairings for the first two rounds of the Open: Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay and Matt Kuchar (10:21 a.m. ET); DJ, Jason Day and Keegan Bradley (9:59 a.m.); Brooks Koepka, Louis Oosthuizen and Shubbankar Sharma (8:04 a.m.); and Rory McIlroy, Gary Woodland and Paul Casey (5:09 a.m.)
