Kansas is taking control in KC. The Jayhawks are on a 17-4 run and lead by 11. The KU side of the Sprint Center has come alive. Important to note that Mizzou, even with its additions, finished 8-24 a year ago.

Missouri leads Kansas 44-40 at the half behind 15 points from freshman Michael Porter Jr. A spirited atmosphere as these rival programs head to the locker rooms in Kansas City.

Kansas senior Devonte' Graham, the preseason Big 12 player of the year, is in midseason shooting form here in the exhibition opener. Graham is 5 of 7 from 3-point range in the first half. As expected, this is fast paced and entertaining, with the Jayhawks and Missouri on pace to both reach 90 points.

At this early stage of practice, expect play at the Sprint Center to resemble something of a pickup game, which might make it more exciting to watch 6-10 Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr. He's a likely one-and-done for the Tigers and first-year coach Cuonzo Martin as the No. 2-rated prospect in the Class of 2017.

This is truly a sight to behold for fans of Kansas and Missouri basketball — even in October. Rivals back together on the court for the first time since 2012 to play for hurricane relief. The 18,000-seat Sprint Center in Kansas City is sold out. The secondary market is alive in on the streets outside. A PPV television broadcast is available.

Kansas coach Bill Self says changes need to be made to the collegiate structure as a result of the federal bribery scandal that broke last month. But it's not as easy, Self said, as simply paying players.

Mitch Sherman ESPN Staff Writer

Kansas coach Bill Self confirms that the Jayhawks will play Missouri in an exhibition game on Oct. 22 in Kansas City, with proceeds from the game to help hurricane victims. Self says this game has nothing to do with the dormant KU-Mizzou rivalry. "We have an opportunity, with NCAA approval, to do something for others." He said the schools hope to raise more than $1 million.
