David Stern had a problem with the Nets resting Jeremy Lin, Brook Lopez and Trevor Booker in the season finale against Chicago, which clinched a playoff berth with a 112-73 win over Brooklyn. The Nets had no reason to risk any injuries to Lin and Lopez, who have dealt with injuries in the past. "I have no idea what was in the mind of the executives of the Brooklyn Nets -- none -- when they rested their starting players," Stern, the former NBA Commissioner, told USA Today. "If you're playing in a game of consequence, that has an impact, which is as good as it gets... And they sit their starters? Really? It's inexcusable in my view... shame on the Brooklyn Nets. They broke the [pact with fans]."

The dismal state of New York basketball has the Nets' top pick going to Boston and the Knicks in the seventh spot entering the lottery after losing a tiebreaker with Minnesota today.

Sean Marks says he and Kenny Atkinson will go to Europe and meet with Mikhail Prokhorov and do some scouting as well.

Kenny Atkinson on what he learned from the Nets going 20-62: "I know it's going to make me a better coach... by the end of the season, I started to feel like a head coach. It's going to be a fun offseason tweaking some things strategically. I know this is going to be a process (becoming) a top-level coach."

Sean Marks says "it's been a learning curve" for Kenny Atkinson having to be the one who endured all the losses the most and stand before media and answer all the questions. Marks says behind scenes, Atkinson did incredible work keeping players morale up and keeping the team working despite the losing and instilling aspects he learned from mentors like Mike Budenholzer.

After striking out in restricted free agency last summer twice with Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe, Sean Marks said, "doesn't mean we are not going that route." Marks says he's looking at everything but Nets have to be smart about it.

On where the Nets' culture and rebuild is, Sean Marks reiterates how long the process will be: "We know we got a long ways to go... continually a work in progress." Kenny Atkinson says after going through his first season, he still understands the massive rebuild he and Marks have entered. "Every day counts," Atkinson said.

At the Nets' end of season presser, Sean Marks says "no question" that Brook Lopez is an "elite center" and that he clearly fits in Kenny Atkinson's system.
