NFL experts debate: Our picks for MVP in 2019

Is Patrick Mahomes the favorite to repeat? Could Aaron Rodgers get back into the mix? Our insiders look ahead to the start of the season.

The Bills on Monday signed TE Lee Smith to a three-year deal and released TE Jake Fisher. The length of Smith's contract suggests he could be in relatively strong position to make the 53-man roster as a blocker, alongside free-agent addition Tyler Kroft ($8.3 million guaranteed) and third-round rookie Dawson Knox. Smith played for the Bills from 2011-14 before joining Oakland.

Bills sign 7 draft picks; QB Anderson retires

The Bills have signed seven of their eight draft picks, including first-round selection Ed Oliver, while veteran quarterback Derek Anderson is retiring after 14 seasons.

Adam Schefter ESPN Senior Writer

QB Derek Anderson has informed the Bills he has retired from the NFL.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Dolphins likely have found their starting RT in Jordan Mills, who they are signing to a 1-year, $3 million deal as ESPN's Adam Schefter said. He also won't affect the compensatory formula since he was signed after May 8. Right tackle was a big need for Miami since Ja'Wuan James left to Broncos in free agency. Mills, who started the last 3 seasons at right tackle for Buffalo, will fill that.

Source: Bills won't pick up DE Lawson's option

The Bills will not exercise the fifth-year option on DE Shaq Lawson's contract, a source told ESPN. Lawson was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Mike Rodak ESPN Staff Writer

The Bills will not exercise DE Shaq Lawson's fifth-year option for 2020, a source confirmed. Lawson, a first-round pick in 2016, would have been paid the average of the third through 25th-highest paid players at his position. Lawson tallied four sacks and a career-high two forced fumbles last season but generally has not lived up to expectations and could be a better fit elsewhere.
