Elliott on appeals: 'Important for me to fight'

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott said it's "important" to fight the six-game suspension from the NFL, and that he doesn't want to be labeled as an abuser.

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

Ezekiel Elliott is not ready to end his fight with the NFL because his name is more important to him than a six-game suspension. Elliott won a restraining order Tuesday that prevents the league from implementing its suspension and allows him to play Sunday at San Francisco. “When you get accused of something of that magnitude, you kind of get labeled as an abuser and that's not me,” Elliott said. “That's not how I want to be seen. That's not what I want to represent to my family. So I mean it's just important for me to fight.”

Not the Zeke we're used to in Dallas

Ezekiel Elliott hasn't had the same production on the field in 2017 that he had through the Cowboys' first five games in 2016. Last year's rushing champion is averaging just 1.7 yards before contact per rush this season (T-38th in NFL), compared to 3.1 last season (7th in NFL).

Garrett says Elliott has stayed focused despite distractions (0:36)

Given how the Ezekiel Elliott situation has played out this season and how it could stretch into next season, it will be interesting to see the reaction Commissioner Roger Goodell will receive at next year's draft at AT&T Stadium.

Sean Lee is ready to play. In individual work during the portion of practice open to the media he popped Justin March-Lillard so hard Lee's fellow linebacker went to the ground. Lee quickly apologized. Lee has missed the last two games with a hamstring strain.

Left tackle Tyron Smith was the only player missing from the open portion of Wednesday's practice. All eyes were on Ezekiel Elliott as he won a temporary restraining order Tuesday that will allow him to play Sunday at San Francisco.

Jason Garrett spoke with Ezekiel Elliott Tuesday night after the Dallas Cowboys' running back earned a temporary restraining order preventing the NFL's six-game suspension. Elliott's status was not part of the team meeting Monday or Tuesday. While pleased to have Elliott on the field for at least one more game, if not two, Garrett said, “For us it's really been status quo. Control what we can control and that's been our approach all along. We think Zeke's done an excellent job of focusing on what he needs to do. We certainly try to do that as a football team. So nothing's really changed from our perspective.”

Dallas, AT&T Stadium to host 2018 NFL draft

Dallas will take the baton from Philadelphia and host the 2018 NFL draft, with the three-day event taking place at the Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

All three days of next year's NFL Draft will be at AT&T Stadium. There were initial thoughts that the later rounds would move to The Star, the Cowboys' practice facility, but all three days will be in Arlington, Texas.

Here is the NFL's reaction to Ezekiel Elliott being granted a temporary restraining order that will allow him to play Sunday at San Francisco: "We are confident our arguments will prevail in court when they are taken up again later this month."

Tristan H. Cockcroft ESPN Senior Writer

You might've noticed in my Week 7 rankings that I've still got Ezekiel Elliott ranked (No. 2 in PPR), because his situation is somewhat unclear. If I assume he's ineligible to play Sunday, I'd slot Alfred Morris as my RB26 (between James White and Jonathan Stewart) and Darren McFadden my RB34 (between Mike Gillislee and Isaiah Crowell).

Most teams hold steady during off weeks, but Dallas might lose Ezekiel Elliott just before its toughest stretch of the season.
