Fins GM on rebuild: We're trying to build winner

In his first public comments since the 2019 draft, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said the Laremy Tunsil and Minkah Fitzpatrick trades were unexpected but unique opportunities.

Dolphins GM Chris Grier said trades for Laremy Tunsil & Minkah Fitzpatrick were "very unexpected." He said HOU kept pursing on Tunsil & when Tunsil saw trade terms on the board he joked: "I would trade me for that too." He said Minkah Fitzpatrick was matter of player wanting out, and they tried to convince him to stay with no avail.

One of Dolphins few remaining young core pieces — CB Xavien Howard — tweeted a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air gif with Will Smith standing in an empty living room looking around. That seems to be his response to the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade. Miami got good value on the trade, but Fitzpatrick was a 2018 first-round pick who was supposed to be a part of the future. Another player gone in the Dolphins teardown.

Dolphins now set to have three first-round picks (own, Houston, Pittsburgh) in 2020 after the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade. They'll own the draft and they hope Pittsburgh's pick could be high after the Steelers start the year 0-2 plus Ben Roethlisberger out for the year due to injury. Miami set to have SEVEN picks in the first three rounds next spring. Dolphins GM Chris Grier will be the most important decision-maker in the draft next April.

The Steelers' 2020 pick has a 29% chance to be in the top 5 and 62% chance to be in the top 10, per FPI.

McAfee on Dolphins tanking: 'I've never seen something like this' (1:02)

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Thoughts on Dolphins snap counts: - Preston Williams inching toward full-time status, might not be long until he's WR1 here. - Kenyan Drake/ Kalen Ballage split was similar to last week ~ 55/40 respectively. - Minkah Fitzpatrick was a full-time player this week and played a lot of FS, which he enjoyed. Was this his last game as a Dolphin after trade request?
