Saturday says Thielen 'best receiver in the NFL hands down' (0:56)

Vikings kicker Dan Bailey had dealt with the wind at MetLife Stadium before, but today was probably the most it affected the game plan/how the specialists approached things. Bailey said his operation, ball striking on the 42-yard field goal attempt the wind took wide left was ideal execution, and he could tell immediately that the wind was going to take the perfectly placed kick off course. "if I had to do it 10 more times, I'd do it the same way," Bailey said. "At our stadium on a day where there's no wind, no nothing, that would have been right down the middle. Unfortunately that happens sometimes but it was great operation, great ball strike. Just got a big gust of wind and knocked it down."

Talked with Pat Elflein about his barefoot warmup, which he said is something he does because it takes him longer to get his ankle warmed up after offseason surgery. Doing it barefoot, or in socks, helps his ankle/calf get used to the feeling of the turf and what he'll experience in games. "It was cold but if you're moving around a lot out there you don't really feel it," Elflein said.

On the hit he took from Jamal Adams that caused him to spit up blood on the sideline, Adam Thielen said he thinks he cut "some stuff in my mouth" but was able to go back in the game not long after. Here's Thielen's explanation on what happened: "He got me in the chest, knocked the wind out of me and got me in the jaw a little bit. It was a good, clean hit, obviously. We'll see it on film. They're a good physical bunch and he's a good football player. I knew at some point he was going to get a piece of me."

Vikings lead remains 10-7 going into the half after the wind carried Dan Bailey's 42-yard field goal wide left. Brutal first half of offensive football for both teams. Vikings failed to convert on a single third down (0-for-8) and generated just 15 yards on the ground. After leading Minnesota on a touchdown drive after the opening kickoff, Kirk Cousins cooled off considerably, finishing the first half 12-of-23 passing for 104 yards and a touchdown. Minnesota's plays are taking too much time to develop, and it's not allowing them to take advantage of the great field position its special teams unit has put them in throughout the game. Punter Matt Wile landed 3 punts inside the 20 and got Cousins out of a huge bind in the first quarter, punting 68 yards after the Vikings were pinned at their own 1-yard line.
