Seattle's McDowell apologizes for Atlanta arrest

Seahawks rookie defensive lineman Malik McDowell says he is "embarrassed" by what led to his disorderly-conduct arrest and apologized Monday to the club at which the incident occurred, the Atlanta police, and his team.

Pete Carroll said he and Seahawks general manager John Schneider met separately with Malik McDowell since the rookie defensive lineman was arrested over the weekend on a charge of disorderly conduct following a dispute at an Atlanta-area nightclub. "He's very remorseful," Carroll said. "He got in a situation and made a mistake and hopefully this will be a learning experience for him. I don't know much more than that about it. We just talked about it a bit, but I know he felt really bad representing in that manner."

The Seahawks' linebacker situation is something to watch this week after Bobby Wagner (hamstring) and K.J. Wright (concussion) both left yesterday's game. Pete Carroll said the team probably won't know about Wagner's status until this weekend. Wright "had a good day today, though, and made a good turn," Carroll said, calling that a positive. Running back Mike Davis (ribs) also left yesterday's game. Carroll said Davis was "moving around pretty good today" but that his status is uncertain. Carroll expects defensive end Dion Jordan (neck) to practice Wednesday.

Pete Carroll defended Michael Bennett's attempts to swipe at the snap at the end of yesterday's game but said what Bennett did after that wasn't OK. He said he's told Bennett to not swipe at the ball any more.

Seahawks defensive lineman Malik McDowell released a statement apologizing for his arrest over the weekend. McDowell was arrested for alleged disorderly conduct after a dispute at an Atlanta-area nightclub. McDowell: "I am embarrassed by the situation and my actions on Saturday. I would like to apologize to the Atlanta Police Department, SL Lounge, the entire Seattle Seahawks organization and my teammates. I am a young man who made a mistake and am constantly working towards getting better." McDowell, a rookie, hasn't played this season due to injuries he sustained in a summer ATV accident.

The NFL is looking into the mayhem that erupted both on and off the field late in Sunday's game between the Seahawks and Jaguars. NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said: "We will be working with the [Jaguars] to identify those who might have been involved in throwing objects or acting outside the rules that we expect form our fans. That has already begun, as well as in our football operations department, looking at some of the on-field stuff. Nothing to report at this point but all of this will be looked at thoroughly."
